ORDER OF DEMOLAY
BUILDING TOMORROW'S LEADERS, TODAY
PAVING THE WAY TO A BRIGHTER FUTURE
GET TO KNOW US
Our youth have so much to offer to the world - we believe in the power that they hold, and know that they will mold future generations to come. At Lorraine Chapter Order of DeMolay, we give them the guidance and support needed to shape them into leaders of the future.
DeMolay is an organization for young men between the ages of 12 and 21, which provides a program based on timeless principles and practical, hands-on experience. DeMolay places control of the organization in the hands of its members, the youth, enabling them to dream-up and plan-out events and activities that are customized to their interests. Guided by their advisors, which are comprised of volunteers and parents, this format allows the members to develop the skills they will carry throughout their lives.
With nearly 100 years of history, and more than 3,000 Chapters worldwide, DeMolay is an organization which can stand the test of time! If you would like to learn more about our organization, please check out the slides below or send us an email at the address provided on this site. We will do our best to get back to you, and answer your questions, as soon as possible. We hope that you'll consider joining our organization and become a part of our history helping to build tomorrow's leaders, today!
COMMITTED TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE
OUR HISTORY
DeMolay has been at the forefront of making a difference in the lives of young men since 1919. However, our story begins long before that in fourteenth century France.

At that time, King Philip, the “Fair” of France, was interested in obtaining the vast wealth and land of the Knights Templars, one of the most powerful organizations of the time. To accomplish this, he devised a plan, which included arresting and torturing the members of the order, and thereby leaving him in control of their assets.
Jacques DeMolay, the namesake of our organization, was the last Grand Master of the Knights Templar and was arrested and subjected to seven horrible years of inquisition and torture by Philip. After repeatedly refusing to reveal the names of his fellow comrades, and steadfastly remaining faithful to the ideals of his order, Philip ordered DeMolay and one of his faithful preceptors, Jeffery De Charney, to be burned at the stake as a final demonstration of Philip’s authority.

Centuries later, in 1919, a Kansas City Freemason named Frank S. Land noticed a need for a young men’s organization in the Kansas City area. After meeting with a young man named Louis Lower, Land arranged a meeting with several other area youths at the Kansas City Scottish Rite building. With Land’s guidance and the ambition of the young men, the Order of DeMolay was born.

During the years that followed DeMolay spread rapidly throughout the United States, and eventually the world. In 1924, Lorraine Chapter was founded in Butler, Pennsylvania, where we still meet today.

WHAT DO WE DO?
GUIDING YOUTH TOWARDS SUCCESS
At Lorraine Chapter Order of DeMolay, we are committed to creating an environment where each young man can easily realize their potential and achieve their goals. To do this, the members will lead and participate in organized meetings of the group as well as work with their fellow members to brainstorm ideas for events and activities, which they then plan and organize. This ensures there is something for everyone in DeMolay! Additionally, the skills learned by leading meetings, speaking in front of groups, and planning activities will be those vital to our members as they continue their journeys through life.
Although it is difficult to sum up all of the things you can do in DeMolay, some examples of events we have participated in or held in the past include: Laser Tag, Bowling, YMCA Lock-Ins, Sports Tournaments, Game Nights, and Dances.
Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders, and through personalized attention and guidance we are essentially providing them with all the resources they need to thrive as leaders in years to come.
